Fight or flight ?

Fight or Flight ?
I prefer fight.
In life you have to fight. In order for you to reach your goals (Yes! You read it right. Your goals. Not your mother's, father's or whoever. Your goals), you have to fight!
Fight until you are already satisfied with your life. No matter what life throws at you learn to adapt to your environment, but never let it define you.

Dami kong sinasabi ano ? So, hindi ko alam kung paano ko talaga sisimulan ito kaya basahin nyo nalang ha ? Nakaka inspire naman yan :).

Let's Start!
Siamese fighting fish. Wait. What ? Siamese ? That's a cat right ? Fighting ? What? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttt???

Okay, let's be clear on this. SIAMESE FIGHTING FISH, also known as BETTA FISH, is a beautiful fish. When I say beautiful, I'm serious, man, it's true.

If you are talking to a professional person like someone who has masteries on aquaculture might as well mention its scientific name. Betta splendens sounds smart.

Betta fish was first discovered in Southeast Asia in rice paddies, drainage ditches and warm flood plains of the region. Can you imagine finding a beautiful fish in your kanals ?

The cyclic , drastic changes in its environment helped the fish to adapt making it a true LABYRINTH FISH. LABYRINTH FISH has the unique ability to breathe oxygen directly from the air and also taking in oxygen from its gills. HUWAW! An aquarium fish that needs no aeration? Absolutely!

So why are they called "fighting" fish ? Does fighting means they are aggressive ? Bettas prefer to swim ALONE, that's the whole point. Two male bettas can never occupy the same space. But, if you want to be fancy before getting others, make sure that your tank is above 5 gallons and can handle the bioload. Bettas prefer 2.5 gallons or bigger. BOWLS ARE NOT AN OPTION. I hope I made myself clear on that. Please, do not abuse these elegant fishes.

What kind of aquarium should I put up then? You might ask.
This aquarium has been standing for almost three month already. It has pebbles to make more surface area for the fish and other beneficial bacteria. To maintain its clean and optimal environment water should be changed 2 times a week.

I think my betta fish is sick what should I do?

If you see the following signs in your fish, you should take action immediately:

  • Lethargic-always hiding, inactive, lazy.
  • Refuse to eat
  • Color is fading
  • Fins are damaged and clamped
  • Labored breathing
  • White spots
  • Swollen eyes and gills

What to do?
After you identify the problem and the main cause of the disease you can proceed to the treatment. If your bettas share the same waters but separate container, start from isolating the affected fish. Always remember that fish may be come sick because there is a problem in their environment. That is why if you observed that there is something wrong with your fish also check the quality of the water and their diet. If the condition was not lessen after the maintenance of their optimum environment and correction of their diet, you can consider the disease as infectious and treat them with appropriate treatments.

What do they eat ? Well, basically there are available betta fish feeds commercially. So, go to your nearest pet shop and buy them foods.

Okay thats it! I hope you learned something from this blog. CONGRATULATIONS ! Thank you for reading. See you next blog. Babyeeeee. ;)
